Phew! What a week, you guys!

I feel like we were all hit by a huge bus called politics and are trying to make sense of everything that is happening around us. I obviously won’t get into detail here – no polemic subjects are allowed in my little food sanctuary – but I will try to contribute to a better, kinder internet. And what greater way to do that than by sharing some good ol’ spiced cider with my dear cyber friends?

So leave your political beliefs outside and come on in, because it is time we all get a mug to share some love!

If you’re a hot cider lover, chances are you already saw a million recipes online for cider made from scratch in the slow cooker.

I mean, it really sounds delicious, but have you met me? Why would I cook a bazillion apples to make apple juice when the supermarket has all those gallons of apple cider ready for grabs? Amirite?

Once I make my husband carry that baby home, all that is left to do is combine it with some other ingredients in the slow cooker and let that baby work on mulling all the flavors together til autumn perfection! ❤️

Except, I lie…

You do have to cook the pumpkin puree with the spices and the sugar before adding it to the slow cooker. ???

But the pumpkin syrup really elevates this cider and the results are so cozy and soul soothing, that it is VERY worth it the extra 10-ish minutes and an additional pan to wash. So don’t skip it! Or I don’t think we can be friends anymore…

The good news is that the cider only needs 2-3 hours in the slow cooker, just until it gets nice and hot and the flavors are combined into one piece of Fall heaven. And the bonus? The smell. Oh, I simply can’t stop mentioning the smell! Nothing makes me happier than my house smelling like spiced cider.

No wonder they make candles and oils that smell like this!

Once your cider is ready and you have drank a cup – because I dare you to open that lid and not crave a cup right away – my advice is to transfer it to a Thermos® bottle and head to your neighborhood park (or, ya know, your backyard if you have one!) to enjoy a beautiful Fall afternoon with your family or friends.

I know what you are thinking right now. “No way, Jose, this delicious cider is ALL MINE!”.

And I get you, I really do! But this recipe makes quite a lot of cider and you will feel good for sharing with your loved ones. ‘Tis the season, after all… Besides, you can always make more later! ?

And that’s what we did last Sunday. A big batch of Pumpkin Spiced Cider, a Thermos® bottle and my family (as in husband + silly dog) was all I needed to finish the weekend on a happy note!

I was really impressed with how long the cider stayed hot (not warm, but really hot) in the Thermos® bottle. Not to mention it is really easy to carry around and is cool to the touch with hot liquids as well as sweat-proof with cold.

I will be known as the girl that is always carrying spiced cider wherever she goes. ? And there’s nothing wrong with that, right? Except perhaps for whoever is not getting invited to share!

And that would be Lola.

Lola didn’t get any cider, poor thing! But she did get to chew on an absurd amount of sticks and sniff every single tree, bunch, person and/or other animals she encountered on her way. So I’m guessing she had a good weekend!

We really gotta get out more to enjoy the outdoors while we can. Because soon the chilly fall is going to turn into bone cracking winter and my Brazilian body will hibernate until spring has sprung.

No need to worry! I’ll be inside enjoying a good book and a cup of hot chocolate, latte or – you guess it – this delicious spiced cider!

So if you love all things pumpkin, apple and autumn, I recommend you do the same. Because as of now, you are less than 3 hours away from a spiced nectar from the Gods going down your throat, caressing every single inch of your being! (Gosh, am I a little hippie today or what?)

And if you feel inclined, go ahead and add some booze. A little rum or bourbon and you are set for success! ?
