Sing with me!
“She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
El-oh-el-aye Lola la-la-la-la Lola”
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
El-oh-el-aye Lola la-la-la-la Lola”
Today I am partnering with my friends at IAMS™ to talk with you guys about something – or better, someone – I’m absolutely crazy about: my furry baby daughter Lola! (Who, I know, is in desperate need of a hair cut!)
“But what does that have to do with the song from The Kinks?”, you might be asking yourself.
That song is the reason my dog’s name is Lola!
Let me explain: before I started dating my husband, my Brazilian self had never heard of this song and the first name on my future baby girl’s list (please tell me you also has a list of names for your future babies!) was Lola. I just really love that name!
So imagine my horror when I told my husband that our future (imaginary) daughter would be named Lola and he responded by singing:
“Well I’m not the world’s most masculine man
But I know what I am and I’m glad I’m a man
And so is Lola
La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola”
“What? Lola’s a man?”, I shrieked. “OMG! I can’t name our daughter Lola. People will bully her by singing this song to her!”
Yeah… So that was the end of my plans to name my child Lola…
Until a few months later when we got our beautiful puppy and I looked at her and decided to name her Lola anyway. After all, I doubt she would feel offended by a song! (Oh yeah, dogs have this amazing ability to not get offended over anything! I so wish I were like that!)
So I got to name my child Lola after all. Only it was my furry 4 legged child instead of my human one! Nowadays her personality fits more with the “Whatever Lola Wants” song, from Damn Yankees. My husband even likes to tell people that’s the song we name her after. But the truth is… it was because of The Kinks song!
What about you? Do you have dogs? What are their names and the story behind that name?
The reason I’m sharing Lola’s story with you today is because I watched this new video by IAMS™ titled “A Boy and his Dog Duck”, which tells a heartwarming story of how the dog got his name. Duck’s story inspired me to share Lola’s story.
Are you ready? Tissues and all? Be prepared to cry a little!
Ok, full disclosure: I didn’t shed a few tears. I cried like a baby! *blows nose*
There is really no better friend than a dog, and I carry all my dogs (the ones that are alive and the ones that have passed) in my heart. I think this campaign really hit the soft stop by celebrating the meaningful connection and relationships people have with their pets.
I have fed Lola IAMS™ dog food ever since she was a tiny fur ball, because that was what the breeder recommended. She is a healthy dog and I feel really good about that choice.
I think every pet owner can relate to the desire to their pets to be youthful and vibrant throughout the course of their lives. IAMS™ is dedicated to bring a key component in helping enhance dog’s health at every life stage, allowing us – pet owners – to feel confident about choosing a brand that is dedicated to keep them healthy.
IAMS™ products are available for purchase at mass retailers and pet stores nationwide. For more information, visit their website, Facebook page and/or Twitter.
I hope you guys enjoyed learning more about Lola! She is a huge part of my life and it’s was time she started being a part of this blog too! :)
